Recovery thrives in the presence of community support. When organisations unite, they create pathways to healing and hope. Our partnerships power our ability to deliver comprehensive services and vital resources, enabling clients to rebuild their lives and reconnect with those they love as they overcome addiction.
At Marrin Weejali, we understand that healing is not a journey taken alone. Recently, our partners at OCTEC recognised our efforts, reminding us of the importance of these relationships. Collaborating with organisations that share our values, champion the same causes and complement our services is crucial to our mission.
Our CEO, Tony Hunter, often emphasises, “It takes a network of people to truly make a difference in someone’s life. Each partnership and contribution helps guide individuals through their journey towards lasting change.”
Marrin Weejali recently received the 2024 OCTEC National Community Award. OCTEC’s Board and Management commended our commitment, stating: “…it is my great pleasure to advise that your organisation has been nominated for, and won, a 2024 OCTEC National Community Award.
The OCTEC National Community Awards recognise progressive and supportive organisations, assisting OCTEC to create pathways to employment for people with disability. This has certainly been the case with Marrin Weejali. We value and appreciate our partnership with you.”
Starting as a small youth service in Orange in 1976, OCTEC has grown into a prominent provider of training and employment support across Australia. It delivers impactful programs that help individuals build better futures.
With a focus on creating opportunities, OCTEC has delivered major government-funded programs like CYSS, SkillShare, and Job Network. Their work is dedicated to empowering people to improve their job prospects and achieve greater self-reliance, especially for the young and disadvantaged.
OCTEC’s success is built on strong community partnerships and a commitment to innovative support. By addressing challenges and providing targeted assistance, they play a crucial role in helping individuals overcome barriers and thrive in their careers and lives.
While clients can self-refer to our services, many come to Marrin Weejali through referrals from other organisations. We’ve earned a reputation for providing culturally safe services and programs in addiction recovery and have built strong relationships with organisations that trust us to offer the support their clients need, no matter the circumstances.
These referral pathways are crucial to our mission of supporting individuals and families in Western Sydney as they heal and rebuild their lives. Our referral network often includes Community Corrections, the justice system, the Department of Child Services, the Department of Housing, job networks and allied health professionals such as GPs and mental health professionals.

Penrith Community Corrections
Marrin Weejali’s partnership with Penrith Community Corrections is crucial in supporting clients navigating the justice system. Mandy Zaccazan, the Aboriginal Community Engagement Officer at Penrith Community Corrections, works closely with our team to help clients reintegrate into society.
This partnership allows us to offer culturally appropriate support to Aboriginal clients, ensuring they feel seen, heard and respected throughout their recovery journey. Mandy’s connection with Marrin Weejali strengthens our impact, helping clients rebuild their lives in a positive and supportive environment. Together, we work to break the cycle of addiction.
“Marrin Weejali goes beyond addressing alcohol and drug use in the community, taking into account the full cultural, social and emotional context of Aboriginal people, including an awareness of the ongoing legacy of trauma, grief and loss associated with colonisation.”
Recovery from addiction is a complex journey that often requires more than one form of treatment. Addressing diverse needs—such as medical, mental health, legal support and employment—requires a holistic approach. That’s why our robust network of partners plays a crucial role in ensuring a full recovery.
Even when hope feels distant and spirits are low, we are here for you. Our commitment goes beyond just providing services and programs. We offer a compassionate, supportive community that stands by you through every challenge. No matter how broken you feel, know you are not alone.
Our programs and services provide holistic, culturally safe support for individuals and families on their journey to healing and recovery. They are open to both Aboriginal and non-Indigenous people in Western Sydney.
